Dr. James Michael Tschirhart, MD of Saginaw, age 55, was born on February 8, 1957 and passed away peacefully April 12, 2012 with his family by his side and dear friend, Susan Selves. He was a general surgeon at several hospitals in the Saginaw area. His home hospital was Covenant Health Care. He once was the Chief of Surgery for Saginaw Medical Society, Assistant Director of Surgery for Michigan State University and a Fellow member of the American College of Surgeons. James officially became a surgeon on July 5, 1989 and continued to save thousands of lives and trained many young surgeons in his remaining career. He was a legendary teacher of surgery. As a young man, Dr. Tschirhart was a National Merit Scholarship Student, an Eagle Scout, a top honor student at Michigan State University and a top honor student at the Michigan State University School Medicine. James is survived by his wife Jill of Saginaw, his daughters Emily of New York City, Julia of Spokane, WA, and Marideth of Saginaw. He is also survived by his father James and stepmother Jean of Plymouth; his siblings Dr. Patricia Spangler (Tom) of Bethesda, MD, Dr. Robert Tschirhart (Jaci) of Naperville, IL, Mark Tschirhart (Deborah) of Woodstock, IL, Philip Tschirhart (Anne) of Durham, NC, and Dr. John Tschirhart (Karen) of Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Elaine Tschirhart, who passed away on April 3, 2006.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday April 16, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church 2525 Hemmeter, Saginaw. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 5:30 P.M. until the time of service.
